Deerstalker
Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
The Deerstalker Scotch whisky brand name has a long and honorable heritage, stretching back to the 1880s, when it was established b the Leith wine and spirit merchant J G Thomson & Co. Originally a blend, Deerstalker has been marketed as a single malt since 1991, and is now in the hands of the Glasgow-based company Aberko. The 10 years old was distilled at Braeval distillery, while the 12 and 18 years old come from Inver House Balmenach distillery, near Grantown-on-Spey.
The 18 years old expression of Deerstalker possesses an intriguing and inviting nose, with obvious herbal notes, plus eucalyptus, heather and hints of well-mannered Sherry. Rich and warming on the palate, this is a big-bodied beast, with well harmonized malt and Sherry flavors prevailing. A suggestion of peat smoke lingers in the background, and the finish is long and sophisticated.
